Hey there, my good woman, Dawn Andrews here diving into a fresh episode where we are going to unapologetically celebrate a new kind of laziness. A strategic, soul nourishing downtime that is all about recharging and revamping our creativity in the wild. World of entrepreneurship.
Trust me, this is not just about Netflix and naps, but the genius that wakes up when you rest.If you're ready to redefine freedom and sprinkle some me time magic into your hustle, dive in with me.
Hey, hey, hey, Dawn Andrews here. Welcome back to another episode of My Good Woman, the podcast where we throw conventional wisdom out the window, burn it, and use the ashes to fertilize our garden of success.
So have you ever felt judged for taking a midday nap? Have you ever guilt tripped yourself for catching up on the witcher during your so-called work hours ever been told you're lazy for wanting to celebrate national No dirty Dishes day by ordering in. Well, it is time to toss those judgy voices out of our mental boardrooms and embrace the glorious, liberating philosophy of working hard and napping harder.
Let's get something straight right off the bat. I am not advocating for laziness, but let's redefine the laziness that I'm talking about, shall we? I'm talking about consciously choosing to pause, unwind, and indulge yourself. It's about deliberately taking time for you, amid the chaos of entrepreneurial life, and it is real, y'all.
It is a crucial ingredient in my secret sauce, and I embrace this philosophy wholeheartedly. I go through periods in my business that are like sprints, deep, intense work that requires everything I've got and more if I can spare it. And in fact, there have been times when I have been a harsher boss and task master to myself than any boss I've ever worked for in corporate.
Entrepreneurial fear would have me working all the time unless I was with my family or sleeping. And in fact, if you wanna hear about how I went off the deep end, I share all about burnout and how I recovered in episode seven of the podcast. So check that out. And the reason I'm sharing all this is because I've had to teach myself how to continue to help high flyers in entertainment and startup founders navigate their way through the startup jungle and be true to myself while still taking time out for myself so that I could sip my morning tea, ponder the mysteries of the universe, or even learn to hip hop dance.
Because why not? I mean, that's the reason we started these businesses in the first place, right?
Is to have more flexibility and freedom. And without the naps, I'm not really living in alignment that way. So I believe now, that life is more fun when you bet on yourself and when you have the ability to do what you want, when you want that freedom and flexibility, and I could not do that without a few good power naps.
This idea is not just about being a renegade or a rebel, it's about creating an ecosystem that promotes creativity and productivity.
So let's talk about that for a minute. Did you know that Salvador Dali and Thomas Edison used naps to boost their creativity? They'd sit in a chair holding a key, and just as they started to drift off, the key would fall out of their hands and they would wake up to a mind buzzing with ideas.
They harnessed the power of hypnagogia, which is the state between wakefulness and sleep, to create breakthroughs in their work. So you see lazing about isn't just about Netflix and chill. It can also be a highly creative and strategic move. And the importance here lies in your understanding that your definition of personal freedom shapes your entrepreneurial journey.
So if you're about hustle and grind, that's the journey you're gonna get. If you're about naps and the occasional me time, that's what you'll get. And what I'm inviting you to do here is to take a moment to ponder and discover and create a balance that works for you, for your clients, and for your business.
So whether you're providing executive leadership coaching, running a strategic planning intensive, embracing this balance will allow you to better help your clients work less, achieve more, and understand their leadership styles and strengths. And more importantly, just give them permission to be human beings.
It's a self-fulfilling circle. If you give them permission, they give it back to you. So here's the deal. I want you to give yourself permission to be lazy. Take that afternoon nap. Enjoy a long, leisurely lunch, or spend the day binge-watching the latest episode of The Crown.
And remember, this isn't about shirking responsibilities. It's about refreshing your mind, rebooting your creativity, and ultimately redefining your freedom. And if you're thinking I could use some guidance in redefining my freedom and becoming a more successful leader, then I'm your gal. If you've ever felt like your creativity needs a cheeky little reboot, but the mere thought of relaxing gives you the heebie-jeebies, I would like to introduce you to the lazy genius list.
It's not about being lazy, it's about juicing up your brain when it's running on meh. From power naps to digital detoxes, this list is your golden ticket to merging downtime with mind-blowing innovation. So before you reach for that fifth cup of coffee or get caught in the digital whirlwind of endless scrolling, grab the list. Your brain and your business will thank you. You can download it now at dawnandrews.com/lazy genius list. Dive into a world where relaxation meets revelation. Let's get genius level lazy together.
To wrap up today's little chit chat. Remember your journey, your rules. Define your freedom. Make your schedule, and don't forget nap hard because you are worth it.
That's it for today's episode, my good woman. Stay sassy, stay bold and stay tuned for more wisdom, wit and occasional laziness. And don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already, because life is more fun when you bet on yourself and you listen to my good woman.
